With the advent of Nikon’s D90, I could no longer resist the etch of getting an digital SLR, I had turned to using the old film-SLRs I have less and less. The two things that did it is 1) D90 can take HDTV video with sound and 2) the british pound is extremely low these days :) I used pricerunner.se, pricerunner.de, pricerunner.dk and pricerunner.co.uk to determine the optimal country to purchase it in.

The camera is GREAT! (got with the nice all round option of 18-105). Next step – now is the time to get the organisation and publishing of the images right. Googling around and using the nose I have for software picks I think I am going to use kphotoalbum (previously know as KImDaBa) which is by far the most intelligent photo organising software I have stumbled upon. I think I will try and use the most recent JAlbum for publishing nice selections. I have used an old JAlbum till now since it was dead easy and gave a very simple and easy to use web photoalbum (don’t bother looking for it, its booring family pictures and stuff and it sits behind a .htaccess file).

First step in getting organised with the fotos is to move all the originals to directories under a single root, with no thumbs and scaled down versions lying around. Non-originals will just be noise when using kphotoshop to tag the images. Second step will be to tag the photos with kphotoshop, introducing some quality token making it easy to just make viewable albums of the good pictures. Third step will be generating the albums.
